Foliage Tours
A chauffeured Skyline Drive tour through Shenandoah National Park in October, planned around the overlooks, the crowds and the light.

A Skyline Drive tour puts you in the passenger seat for the 105 miles of ridgeline road that runs the length of Shenandoah National Park, from Front Royal in the north to Rockfish Gap near Waynesboro in the south. October is the month people plan around: the maples and oaks on the ridge turn first, the valley floors follow, and the overlooks at Thornton Gap, Big Meadows and Stony Man fill up by mid-morning on weekends.
We drive couples, parents and small groups up from Arlington, Alexandria, Tysons, Reston, Fairfax and Loudoun County, or meet you at a hotel in Charlottesville or Winchester. A luxury SUV handles four to seven riders and the gear for a day of short walks; a Sprinter limo gives a group of ten to fourteen perimeter seating and standing headroom between stops, and a Mercedes Sprinter Van suits a larger party that wants captain's chairs and luggage space. If you want the wider sightseeing picture across the state, our Virginia sightseeing chauffeur service covers it; this page is about the ridge road in leaf season.

Planning
Group size and how much time you want out of the car decide the vehicle more than distance does. A skyline drive tour from the DC or Northern Virginia side runs three to five hours on the road before you count stops, so pick a cabin people are happy to sit in. Compare capacities on the fleet page before you request a quote.
| Who is riding | Recommended vehicles | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Couple or two friends | Luxury Sedan | Quiet cabin and leather seats for two; easy pull-offs at overlooks along the Drive. |
| Family of four to seven | Luxury SUV | Room for 4–8 bags, privacy glass and a high seat position for leaf views over guardrails. |
| Six to ten, anniversary or birthday group | Stretch Limousine | Wraparound seating and a bar area turn the drive between overlooks into the event itself. |
| Ten to fourteen, wine country crossover | Sprinter Limo | Perimeter seating, ambient lighting and standing headroom for a long day with vineyard stops. |
| Twelve to eighteen, bachelorette or friends' trip | SUV Stretch Limo | LED ceiling and high-end audio keep a bigger group together in one vehicle. |
| Eighteen to thirty, club or company outing | Mini Bus | Reclining seats and luggage storage for coats, coolers and camera gear across a full day. |
Pricing
A Skyline Drive tour is priced by the hour with a minimum block, because the vehicle and chauffeur are yours for the day rather than for a single ride. Your quote is all-inclusive: gratuity, tolls and fees are explained upfront, and park entrance fees are itemized before you confirm.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Minimum | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury SUV | Up to 7 | 3 hours | Quote in 15 minutes |
| Mercedes Sprinter Van | 10 to 15 | 3 hours | Quote in 15 minutes |
| Sprinter Limo | 10 to 14 | 3 hours | Quote in 15 minutes |
| Luxury Sedan | Up to 3 | 3 hours | Quote in 15 minutes |
Included in every quote: chauffeur gratuity, tolls, fuel and parking. Peak leaf weekends in October, holiday Mondays and longer routes from Northern Virginia to the southern end of the park raise the total; a weekday drive from a nearby hotel lowers it.
Send your date and venues. We reply with an all-inclusive quote, usually within 15 minutes.
Sample schedule
This illustrative schedule assumes a Front Royal entrance, a mid-afternoon turnaround at Big Meadows and a return through Thornton Gap. Times shift with leaf-peeping traffic in October, which is why your chauffeur builds slack into every stop.
Times are an example only; your planner builds your schedule from your pickup address, the entrance you prefer and how long you want at each overlook.
How it works
Beyond the big day
Most foliage bookings are one piece of a longer Virginia weekend. Put the rides on one reservation and the same planner keeps every pickup on the schedule.
Guests flying in for the weekend can be met at Dulles or Reagan National with flight tracking and a 60-minute domestic wait, then driven straight to the hotel. See airport transportation.
Rappahannock and Loudoun County tasting rooms sit close to the Drive's northern entrances; pair the foliage run with a wine tour in the same booking.
Foliage days rarely run to a fixed clock. An hourly limo service lets you add an overlook or a lunch stop without rebooking.
Teams staying near Luray or Wintergreen can use a Sprinter van or mini bus for the park run and a sedan for the executive who arrives late. See corporate limo service.
The southern entrances at Rockfish Gap connect to Charlottesville, Monticello and the Blue Ridge Parkway for a two-day loop.
Couples marrying at a Shenandoah Valley venue often add a foliage drive for out-of-town family the morning after. See wedding shuttle service.
Locations
From Rosslyn and Ballston, the quickest line to the park is I-66 west to Front Royal, roughly 75 miles before you reach the Front Royal Entrance Station. We collect passengers at apartment towers along Wilson Boulevard, the Pentagon and Crystal City offices, and hotels near Reagan National, then run the Dulles Toll Road and Route 66 ahead of the morning rush. Fall weekends fill the northern section first, so an early departure puts you at Thornton Gap or Skyland before the trailhead lots close. On the way home, a stop in Sperryville or a late lunch in Luray breaks up the return drive to Arlington.
Estate driveways in McLean and Great Falls suit the larger vehicles, and we confirm gate codes and turnaround space before the trip. Groups leaving Tysons Corner or Reston Town Center usually build a full-day skyline drive tour, with pickup at the office or hotel and a Route 7 run west through Leesburg to Front Royal. Mid-October is peak color at the higher elevations, and the overlooks between Front Royal and Thornton Gap fill by mid-morning, so we aim to enter the park early. Wolf Trap and Vienna pickups work the same way, with the return timed after dark if the group wants a dinner stop in Warrenton.
Tysons · McLean · Vienna · Great Falls
Skyline Drive begins at Front Royal, and from Leesburg, Middleburg or Ashburn that is a straightforward run down Route 340 past Berryville. Couples staying at Salamander Resort or attending a hunt country wedding often add a foliage drive as a next-day outing, and we hold the vehicle for the afternoon. Sterling and Dulles-side hotels make easy pickup points for out-of-town guests flying in for the weekend. Color arrives in the Loudoun Valley a week or two after the ridge, so late October still delivers, and the wineries along Route 9 give the group a place to stop on the way back.
Ashburn · Leesburg · Middleburg · Sterling · Chantilly & Centreville
Fairfax County groups reach the park by Route 66 to Front Royal or by Route 29 through Warrenton to Thornton Gap, and the second route avoids the worst of the weekend backup at the north entrance. We pick up at George Mason University, Fairfax Courthouse hotels, Reston Town Center and the Dulles corridor offices, then run a Sprinter or mini bus so the group rides together. Manassas and Springfield add time on Route 28 and I-66, so we build that into the schedule. Columbus Day weekend and the last two weekends of October are the busiest, and booking the vehicle for the full day keeps the return flexible.
Reston · Herndon · Fairfax · Falls Church · Springfield · Manassas
Guests staying in Front Royal, Luray or the valley floor are minutes from the gates, and we plan pickups around the Shenandoah Valley locations rather than a long haul from DC. The central district around Skyland and Big Meadows draws the heaviest leaf traffic, and the road between Thornton Gap and Swift Run Gap can slow to a crawl on a sunny Saturday. Charlottesville groups often approach from Rockfish Gap at the southern end, where the Blue Ridge Parkway meets the drive. Fredericksburg and I-95 corridor riders should expect a longer run west on Route 33 or Route 211, and we set the departure early enough to beat the gate queue.

Checklist
Have these details ready when you request a quote and the reservation team can price your skyline drive tour in one pass.

The date and a backup date, since peak color in the park usually falls in the middle two weeks of October.
Which entrance you want to use: Front Royal at the north end, Thornton Gap on Route 211, or Rockfish Gap near Charlottesville.
How many people are riding and whether anyone needs extra legroom or a low step-in height.
The stops that matter most, such as Skyland, Big Meadows, Stony Man or a specific overlook.
How long you want at each stop and whether lunch is part of the day.
Any winery, brewery or dinner reservation after the park that the schedule has to protect.

Why us
One company covers Virginia, Maryland and DC, so a foliage weekend that starts at Dulles and ends in the valley stays on one reservation.
A sedan for two, a Sprinter for a wine-tasting group or a 56-passenger coach for a club outing, all with a chauffeur who knows the park entrances.
Send your date, pickup address and group size and an all-inclusive quote usually comes back within 15 minutes, with gratuity and tolls explained upfront.
Reservations and dispatch answer around the clock, so a weather change or a late addition to the group still reaches a person before the trip.
FAQs
Pricing depends on the vehicle class, the number of hours and the pickup location, since a Tysons pickup adds drive time that a Front Royal pickup does not. Most foliage trips are booked by the hour for a full day. Send your date and group size and we will return an all-inclusive quote, usually within 15 minutes, with gratuity and fees explained upfront.
Book three to four weeks ahead for peak October weekends, and earlier if you need a party bus or a large coach. The last two weekends of October and Columbus Day weekend go first. Weekday trips in late September or early November can often be arranged on shorter notice when vehicles are free.
We book by the hour and build the day around the park's pace rather than a fixed itinerary. A typical plan leaves the pickup point early, enters at Front Royal or Thornton Gap, allows stops at the major overlooks and a meal at Skyland or Big Meadows, and returns in the evening. The chauffeur keeps the schedule loose enough to linger at a favorite overlook or pull in at a wayside for a photo stop.
Guests 21 and older may bring their own beverages in our limousines and party vehicles where state law allows, and we provide ice and glassware. Food is fine in the Sprinter and coach classes. Nothing is served by the chauffeur, and open containers stay closed while the vehicle is moving.
We adjust the route. Skyline Drive occasionally closes sections for weather or heavy traffic, and the chauffeur will use the nearest open entrance or shift to the Blue Ridge Parkway or valley roads. Your hourly reservation continues, so a detour does not cut the day short.
Two or three passengers fit a Luxury Sedan or Luxury SUV, and the SUV's higher seats give better views over the stone walls. Groups of eight to fourteen do well in a Sprinter Limo or Mercedes Sprinter Van, while larger clubs and family reunions should look at the Mini Bus or Charter Bus.
Yes. We collect from Dulles airport hotels, Tysons, Arlington and DC addresses, run the foliage route and bring the group back to the same place. If you are flying in, pair the trip with an airport transfer so the vehicle meets you on arrival and holds the day.
We cover the whole Virginia approach to the park, including Arlington, Alexandria, Tysons, McLean, Reston, Fairfax, Loudoun County and the Shenandoah Valley towns near the entrances. Pickups from DC, Maryland and Charlottesville are available, and the skyline drive tour can start from a hotel, an office or a private residence.
